The global automotive industry is undergoing a transformation fuelled by technological innovation, electrification, connectivity, and evolving mobility models. To stay competitive, carmakers are looking beyond traditional vehicle manufacturing to become comprehensive solution providers across the entire automotive ecosystem. In this context, Chery Holdings has emerged as an agile player, delivering diverse total solutions that integrate R&D, manufacturing, supply chain collaboration, and aftermarket services to meet market changes and global competition. To learn more, the organisers of Automechanika Shanghai visited Chery’s headquarters in Wuhu for first-hand insights into the key drivers behind the company’s transformation.
Building a holistic automotive ecosystem
At the heart of Chery’s strategy is an ecosystem spanning vehicle production, components, new energy technologies, and intelligent connectivity, as well as a full spectrum of mobility and aftermarket services. This integrated approach enables the company to swiftly adapt to shifting consumer demands and technological trends while strengthening partnerships across its supply chain.
Chery’s Intelligent Connected Super Factory in Wuhu is a state-of-the-art manufacturing hub powered by smart, connected, electric and green practices. Leveraging digitalisation, AI-powered inspections and quality checks, and robotic automation, this facility can produce 1,200 vehicle units a day.
Evolving from a manufacturer to a service-oriented enterprise
Chery has transformed from a traditional carmaker into a service-driven conglomerate, a transition reflected in its numerous subsidiaries. For example, Kumquat Technology was introduced in 2018. The company integrates resources and channels across sectors, including vehicle manufacturing, parts manufacturing and aftermarket services to form a comprehensive automotive service ecosystem.
The company offers full-service support for both fuel-powered and new energy vehicles. By fostering an open platform that connects quality parts suppliers, it promotes growth within the intelligent connected vehicle aftermarket at a global level, creating value along the entire vehicle lifecycle.
Innovating in intelligent mobility and autonomous driving
Through MyCar, Chery addresses emerging urban transport demands while expanding its footprint in assisted driving markets, both domestically and internationally. Its commitment is epitomised through MyCar, an integrated vehicle ecosystem with “rent, use, swap” capabilities. The solution supports diverse transportation options, including ride-hailing, private cars, and vehicle testing. The company is also actively developing city-level robotaxi systems and exploring multi-modal transport for land, air, and sea.
A global vision anchored in innovation and collaboration
By harnessing its extensive global R&D capabilities alongside stringent quality management practices, Chery has been one of China’s leading exporters of passenger vehicles for 22 consecutive years.
The company cooperates closely with its network of vehicle brands, core suppliers, and service operators, building a dynamic and resilient supply chain capable of responding to changes driven by electrification, connectivity, and digitalisation. Chery continues to expand its global business network and technological partnerships, relying on collaboration to accelerate innovation and market growth worldwide. Currently, the group has eight major R&D centres and more than 300 laboratories around the world.
Chery Holdings’ evolution from a traditional carmaker into a diversified solutions provider exemplifies how Chinese manufacturers can successfully navigate industry transformation. By integrating cross-functional systems across the automotive value chain, ranging from advanced manufacturing and smart services to intelligent mobility, the company is well-positioned to sustain growth and competitiveness in a rapidly changing global market.
